Brown Continues Fight for Labradorians in Spring Session

For Immediate Release

February 27, 2025

NDP MHA Jordan Brown (Labrador West) remains committed to advocating for Labradorians as the House of Assembly's spring session begins, prioritizing housing, affordability, workers' rights, and returning the water bomber to Wabush.

“The lack of housing continues to stifle Labrador West’s growth. With zero vacancy, seniors, families, and workers looking to settle here are left struggling,” said Brown. “If we want to recruit healthcare workers, teachers, and other essential professionals, they need places to live. Government’s response has been inadequate, and recent announcements still fall short.”

Brown is also pushing for improvements to the Medical Assistance Transportation Program (MTAP) and for the province to sign on to the federal pharmacare plan. “The cost of food, travel, and essential services is rising, and Labradorians are feeling the strain. We need real solutions to make life more affordable,” said Brown.

Workers' rights remain a key focus. Brown is demanding action on the backlog and lack of resources at the Labour Relations Board and calling on the government to adopt anti-scab legislation like Manitoba. “With more workers coming to Labrador for new projects, the government must step up and protect their rights,” he said.

Ahead of wildfire season, Brown is renewing his call to return the fifth water bomber to Wabush. “Last summer was a wake-up call. The government must act now to ensure Labrador is prepared.

“Labrador West is not a mining camp. It’s a community. Investing in our future and ensuring Labradorians get the support they deserve remains my top priority.”
