NL NDP Leader Jim Dinn (St. John’s Centre) wrote to the Premier last week, following up on concerns and suggestions about tariffs raised in his February letter. Dinn is seeking an update on efforts to protect local jobs and consumers amid the ongoing trade war with the U.S.

In his letter, Dinn asked the Premier for updates on several key points regarding efforts to reduce the impact of tariffs. These include progress from the roundtable of industry and labour leaders, details on the strategic use of the $200 million contingency fund, and the outcomes of the Premier's international trips.

Dinn also urged the Premier to consider the points from his February letter on tariffs, which included solutions like removing the provincial portion of HST from home heating and children’s goods. He emphasized the need for opposition party members and independents to be included at the roundtable to receive updates alongside industry and labour leaders.

“As always, I am ready to co-operate with you on constructive measures that will protect Newfoundland and Labrador jobs, shield people from drastic cost hikes on basic goods, and make our economy more resilient than ever before,” Dinn ended.

Dinn has yet to receive an update from the Premier but continues to push for more transparency and teamwork in fighting against tariffs.
