Brown Apprehensive of Labrador Health Announcements

For Immediate Release

24 March, 2023

NDP MHA for Labrador West, Jordan Brown, says the Budget 2023 lacks any vision to address retention and recruitment of health professionals.

“I was happy to see a collaborative care clinic finally announced in Labrador West after calling for it in the House of Assembly, but we still need to address retention and recruitment of health professionals to rural and northern Labrador region.”

“Government must focus on retention and treat workers with respect so they do not leave the province. They must also rollback the privatization of healthcare.”

Regarding the announcement on Medical Transportation Brown is apprehensive of the change in departments but says the program needed to be changed.

“Government changing departments does not mean that program itself will become more effective. We need a new medical transportation program that is patient-focused,” said Brown.

“After our very successful meeting in Labrador West and meetings across the province concerning health care we are disappointed that government really does not have a plan to address social determinants of health so people do not get sick in the first place,” said Brown.
