The Newfoundland and Labrador New Democratic Party (NL NDP) has announced Laurabel Mba as the party’s candidate in Mount Scio for the 2025 provincial election.
Laurabel Mba is a dedicated advocate, award-winning entrepreneur, and community leader. With a background in business and nationally-recognized expertise in equity and anti-racism, she has spent her career helping organizations build more inclusive, just, and representative spaces across sectors.
A sought-after speaker, writer, and host of Out of the Fog, Laurabel amplifies underrepresented voices and highlights changemakers throughout Newfoundland and Labrador. She believes that open dialogue, collective care, and bold action are key to driving lasting, systemic change.
“As a mother, a small business owner, and a first-generation immigrant, I understand the challenges so many in Mount Scio are facing, whether it’s housing, childcare, healthcare, or accessing truly inclusive public services,” said Mba. “My vision is bold and compassionate, rooted in lived experience and community care. I believe Newfoundland and Labrador can be a place where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.”
NL NDP Leader Jim Dinn says that Laurabel Mba’s lived experience, community leadership, and deep commitment to equity is exactly what is needed in the House of Assembly.
“Laurabel’s tireless work in her community will be a tremendous asset in the House of Assembly,” said Dinn. “She has spent her life amplifying the voices of others and standing up for what’s right. Her courage, dedication, and passion for real change are exactly what this province needs. I’m proud she’s found a political home in the New Democratic Party.”
