People of Lewisporte deserve a shot with their plan for their port: NDP Leader

NDP Leader Alison Coffin joined members of the Lewisporte Town Council at the Lewisporte port today to talk about the importance of the Council’s plan to diversify the economy and bring more opportunities to the town and surrounding area.

“The Town Council was asked by the provincial government in 2018 to develop a plan, and in March 2019 they submitted that plan expecting to have the support of government,” says Coffin. “It is disappointing to learn that nothing has happened for them.”

Ms. Coffin has met with the Lewisporte Town Council several times in the past 18 months since becoming Leader of the NDP, most recently on August 11th. She also sent a letter to Premier-designate Furey looking for his support and action on this file.

“Premier Ball spoke positively about the issue in the 2019 election. The people of Lewisporte have done their part. Now it is time for the provincial government to live up to its commitment to support their redevelopment plan,” said Coffin.
