NL NDP Leader Jim Dinn (St. John’s Centre) brought a constituent’s questions about ethics to government today. He says the Liberals continue to attempt to use messaging, including “ethical walls,” to try to hide the favours they do for their donors.
Dinn began by asking the Premier, “Does he think the people of the province are stupid?” That was not a question from Dinn himself, but one from a constituent of his who wanted him to ask it on his behalf. Dinn says that this constituent was disgusted by the verbal gymnastics and flimsy justifications for the land deal for the new St. Clare’s Hospital government proposes to build on Kenmount Road.
This constituent felt strongly that government believes the people of the province lack the intelligence to see through their messaging around the purchase. Dinn asked the Premier if it were true he had such little respect for the people of this province.
Dinn then shared the traditional saying, “The fish rots from the head down,” which reflects the effect of leadership on an organization. “Are the disturbing revelations regarding travel nurses’ accommodations, the St. Clare’s land deal, and the lease deal for the Comfort Inn a reflection on his ineffective leadership and the crumbling ethical walls of his party?” he asked.
These are just a few examples, he says, that shows the government cares much more about their friends and donors than they do about the people of the province.
