After Labrador Affairs office in Lab West quietly eliminated, Premier must give up portfolio: Brown
The NDP MHA for Labrador West, Jordan Brown, is alarmed after learning that the Labrador Affairs Secretariat in Labrador West has been shut down. Brown has learned that the position of executive director and the office itself, located in Wabush, were eliminated over the holidays, effective Dec. 31, 2019.
Brown says this action, conducted quietly over the holidays, is a slap in the face to Labradorians.
“The Liberals eliminated an administrative position from the Secretariat in 2016, and now they have eliminated the last remaining position, that of the executive director, and the office itself,” said Brown.
“I call on Premier Ball to immediately reinstate the Labrador Affairs Secretariat in Wabush. I also call on him to give up the position of Minister responsible for Labrador and instead ensure there is a dedicated Minister – who is a Member representing Labrador – to handle this important portfolio.”
Brown says the Secretariat handled major files pertinent to the Labrador West region and Labrador as a whole. He says residents feel alienated.
“Clearly Labradorians are not a priority of this government,” Brown said.
