“This decision was not sudden, instead it was formed over a period of time and I feel it is the best one for me personally and for the people of Torngat Mountains,” states Evans. “I believe the people of Torngat Mountains will be better served when I am part of the NL NDP Caucus where I will be supported by strong social advocates and like-minds to better assist me to speak out on the realities the people of my district face every day. It will allow me to continue to work to build the foundation for a stronger future for the people of this province.”
NL NDP Leader and MHA for St. John’s Centre, Jim Dinn, says that he was pleased Lela Evans made the decision to join the NL NDP Caucus. In doing so, she has allowed the opportunity to grow the voice of Labradorians represented by NL NDP MHAs in the House of Assembly. Dinn and the NL NDP Caucus look forward to the perspective and insight MHA Evans brings; in her work she has always been a strong voice for equal rights and fairness, an advocate preserving and supporting the Inuit and Innu cultures of Labrador, and she supports the ideals of the NL NDP.
“Lela Evans is known for how strongly she represents the people of her district. She believes in making Newfoundland and Labrador a better place and knows that if we want different outcomes in our future, we have to make different choices," said Dinn.
"Lela Evans believes in fairness, justice, and a society where nobody is left behind. Most importantly, she has a deep love for this province, and a strong desire to build a bright future for its people.”
