Roderick Joseph Deon
July 2, 1921- July 19, 2023
The NL NDP extend their condolences to the family of Rod Deon, a World War II veteran who made a lasting impression here in Newfoundland and Labrador. Deon passed away July 19th at 102 years of age.
“It's with my, and the New Democratic Party's, deepest condolences that we acknowledge the passing of Rod Deon. I was fortunate enough to meet and get to know Mr. Deon through events held by the Royal Canadian Legion, St. John’s Branch No. 1. He was a gentleman and was very humble about his accomplishments.”
Rod was a veteran of the Normandy D-Day Invasion in the World War II, father, husband, and a vibrant community spirit. We were honoured to stand in the House of Assembly last year and commemorate Rod's dedication to his life's work of supporting the Royal Canadian Legion.
“It's often said "they don't make them like they used to" and Rod's legacy and the impact he left on so many lives stand as a testament to that. Today we will mark his passing with his family, and we encourage all of you to join in celebrating the full life of "The Late, Great" Rod Deon.”
“Rod Deon was the embodiment of service to one’s country and province. He will be deeply missed.”
In lieu of flowers, please consider becoming a member of your local branch of the Royal Canadian Legion (anyone may do so) and/or making a donation to the Poppy Campaign - both may be arranged through Legion.ca.
