Statement from NL NDP Leader Jim Dinn on Remembrance Day

For Immediate Release

November 11, 2024

“Today, and everyday, we honour and remember the brave soldiers who served our country, those who gave their lives, and those who continue to protect our freedoms. Remembrance Day is a solemn reminder of the sacrifices made in the face of unimaginable challenges and the enduring commitment to peace and justice that our veterans upheld.

“Newfoundlanders and Labradorians have a deep connection to Remembrance Day, marked by the valiant efforts of our own regiments in battles that shaped our history and identity. Our people have shown resilience, courage, and an unwavering sense of duty.

“As we reflect on these sacrifices, let us also remember the responsibilities we bear today. Our commitment to veterans and their families must extend beyond words, ensuring they receive the support, respect, and care they deserve. In remembering their service, we reaffirm our dedication to building a more just and peaceful world.

“Today, we stand together in gratitude, remembering those we’ve lost and those who returned forever changed. Their legacy is our shared responsibility. May we never forget. We will continue to listen to and advocate for the needs of all of those who served and are serving. We’ll always remember their selfless courage, sacrifice and the high price of war, today and every day.

“Lest we forget.”

Dinn will be laying a wreath at the Cenotaph at the Mount Pleasant Cemetery Field of Honour off James Lane and at the Cenotaph outside of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 1 on Blackmarsh Rd. Dinn will also be attending the ceremony at the National War Memorial.
