NL NDP Leader Alison Coffin questions why government has chosen to implement the recommendation in the Greene Report to absorb Nalcor into NL Hydro after government committed to robust consultations before implementing any recommendations. Coffin expressed concern that government is cherry picking what fits its agenda, while ignoring those outlined by Justice LeBlanc’s final report on the Muskrat Falls Inquiry.
“It is concerning to see the Liberal Government implement recommendations from Moya Greene when they’ve told the people of this province that robust consultations would take place ahead of any implementation,” said NDP Leader Alison Coffin. “This action further underscores the reality that the Liberal Government has no plan, and they’ll pick and choose what best fits their interests while ignoring their own commitments to people within the province.”
Pointing to the LeBlanc Report tabled by the Liberal Government in the House of Assembly, Coffin questions why many of the recommendations from Justice LeBlanc have not been acted upon. The NL NDP Leader expressed concern that what was recommended in the LeBlanc Report is now being superseded by the Greene Report which was crafted to fit the Liberal Government’s Agenda.
“The Liberal Government wastes no time pointing at Muskrat Falls as the reason why they are having to force austerity and cuts in the province, yet they consciously ignore the recommendations from the Muskrat Falls Inquiry, and other reports when it doesn’t suit their agenda,” said Coffin. “This government wastes time and resources appearing as though these reports are being written and tabled for consideration and consultation, but consistently it seems as though the cover is never opened.”
