NL NDP Leader Jim Dinn (St. John’s Centre) is urging Premier John Hogan to show the public his plan for leading this province, one he promised when he was appointed on May 3. With major issues facing the province, Dinn says it’s time for Hogan to speak directly to the people about his priorities.
“Premier Hogan says he’s ready to lead, but people in this province are still waiting to hear how he plans to tackle the serious challenges we’re facing,” said Dinn. “The longer he stays quiet, the more uncertainty grows. People need to know what his government stands for.
“We are still in the thick of a housing crisis, a healthcare system in turmoil, and a cost-of-living surge that’s making it harder than ever for people to meet their basic needs,” Dinn said. “Despite the government's claims that they’ve taken action, people aren’t seeing or feeling any real relief. Premier Hogan must be transparent and upfront with the public about his plan to tackle these serious and growing challenges.”
Dinn pointed to Pharmacare as a clear opportunity for immediate action and called on Hogan to take a stand.
“The federal Pharmacare program is on the table, and there’s no reason to delay,” said Dinn. “With a third of our population living with diabetes or pre-diabetes, Premier Hogan should already be signing on. This is the kind of concrete action people are looking for.”
Dinn also raised concerns about the province’s lack of visibility on trade issues following meetings between premiers and the federal government.
“We’ve seen other premiers speak out after meetings with Prime Minister Carney, especially in the wake of conversations with President Trump,” said Dinn. “Meanwhile, we’ve heard nothing from our own Premier. Newfoundland and Labrador can’t afford to be absent from these critical discussions. With premiers meeting again in Saskatchewan next month, Hogan needs to step up and make it clear what he’s fighting for.”
