In response to the Speech from the Throne delivered at the Colonial Building today, the NL NDP is calling on the provincial government to put their focus on people. Through town halls and meeting with constituents across the province it is clear that people continue to struggle to make ends meet and are most concerned about accessible housing, access to healthcare, and being able to afford to live in this province.
“What we have seen under this Liberal government is a consistency of failures and a pattern of ignoring the needs of public sector workers, and the pleas of people of the province. We have reached a crisis point. This can’t continue,” said Dinn. “The Liberal government needs to put its focus back on people who are struggling to make ends meet and living with an uncertainty about where they’re going to be housed this winter, how they will afford healthy nutritious food, and if access to universally accessible, publicly funded, quality healthcare will be there when they need it,” Dinn said.
“At recent town hall meetings we’ve been holding in our districts, we’ve heard from constituents about what was important to them: cost of living, accessible housing, access to public healthcare, safe neighbourhoods, basic income, and poverty reduction. What was not on their list of priorities was the restoration of the Colonial Building.”
