Kathleen Burt is the NDP candidate for the Topsail-Paradise Byelection

The New Democratic Party of Newfoundland and Labrador is pleased to announce that Kathleen Burt will be the NDP candidate in the Topsail-Paradise byelection.


Kathleen Burt is a community activist, volunteer, and former teacher and college instructor whose career spans more than 25 years in the public and private school systems in three provinces.


“The NL NDP has always put people first, working towards fairness and justice for all,” Burt said. “I am a committed New Democrat because this is a way to give back to my family and my communities – working for a better, more equitable future for everyone in Newfoundland and Labrador.”


The district of Topsail-Paradise is now vacant as a result of the resignation of MHA Paul Davis. The byelection is set for January 24, 2019.

Candidate Biography


Kathleen Burt is a community activist, volunteer, and former teacher and college instructor whose career spans more than 25 years in the public and private school systems in three provinces.


As an educator, Kathleen was actively involved in the executives of various teaching associations and supported continuing education initiatives at her workplaces. Most recently, Kathleen instructed at the College of the North Atlantic and Academy Canada.

Kathleen has been an active member of the NL New Democratic Party for 15 years and has served in a variety of roles. She currently serves as the Membership Secretary.


Kathleen has also served on numerous committees and has been active within the Women’s Caucus and at the district association level for many years.


As an avid volunteer, Kathleen is passionate about democracy, education, and community development.
