NL NDP Leader, and MHA for St. John’s Centre, Jim Dinn was pleased to learn that the Federal NDP and Liberal parties have reached a confidence and supply agreement contingent on the implementation of NDP policies that will bring in changes needed right now to make life easier for everyday people. The announcement includes preliminary investment and targeted legislation to implement national dental care, and pharmacare.

“This is a good news story for all of us across the country, and one that is going to bring sorely needed relief to a lot of everyday people in Newfoundland and Labrador who are trying to make ends meet,” said Dinn. “We extend our thank you and congratulations to the Federal NDP and Liberal parties for prioritizing this. Here at home we owe a sincere thanks to former NL NDP leader, and federal NDP MP Jack Harris who fought tirelessly to make national dental care a priority for Canada.”

The announcement was brokered between the two political parties on the condition that measurable outcomes are achieved by the Liberal government as they implement their priorities for parliament.

“Now it’s to the Liberals in Ottawa to deliver on this deal and not squander this once in a generation opportunity to expand the national medicare plan,” said Dinn. “We hope that our provincial Liberals take note from their federal counterparts that if the political will exists, elected representatives from opposing political parties can deliver on policies that will help everyday Newfoundlanders and Labradorians.”
