Dinn Invited to Participate in Aspen Germany’s Laboratories of Democracy Initiative

For Immediate Release

February 25, 2025

NL NDP Leader Jim Dinn (St. John’s Centre) is traveling to Germany this week to attend Aspen Germany’s Laboratories of Democracy Initiative. Invited as a participant, Dinn will engage in discussions on democracy, social justice and leadership—principles that have defined his career.

The initiative brings together state and provincial legislators from Canada, the United States, and Germany to share best practices and explore solutions to pressing political, economic, and social challenges. Through meetings, discussions, and site visits, participants gain insights into how different jurisdictions approach issues such as climate policy, economic development, and social equity.

“I’m honoured to have been invited to take part in this important initiative,” said Dinn. “It’s a valuable opportunity to exchange ideas with policymakers from other regions and to bring back new perspectives that can help shape policies here at home.

“Newfoundlanders and Labradorians face many challenges, from the rising cost of living to gaps in healthcare and affordable housing. Learning from other jurisdictions and sharing our own experiences is key to finding sustainable solutions.”

Dinn says that with the threat of tariffs and the House of Assembly opening on March 3rd, now is the perfect time to gain these insights to apply to situations unfolding in the province.

“Newfoundland and Labrador needs proactive solutions to stabilize and support our communities, protect workers, and strengthen our economy. We need to build a strong future. This initiative provides a valuable opportunity to learn from international experiences and bring fresh ideas to the table as we navigate these pressing issues.”
