On Dec. 3, 2019 James Dinn, M.H.A. for St. John's Centre, presented a petition calling for parent representation on the new steering committee on Deaf and Hard of Hearing Education. Following the closure of the Newfoundland School for the Deaf in 2010, Deaf children have been systematically deprived of their right to an education equitable to that of hearing children.

On Nov. 7, Alison Coffin, M.H.A. for St. John's East - Quidi Vidi and Leader of the NL NDP, presented a petition calling for improved staffing levels to meet the needs of hospital patients and nursing home residents. For more than a decade the NDP has spoken out publicly and questioned successive governments about the need for a review of staffing levels and a reversal of cuts in nursing and personal care staff. We will continue that pressure.

On Monday April 8, 2019 Gerry Rogers presented a petition in the House of Assembly asking government to change legislation so trans folks do not have to go to CAM-H in Toronto for assessment in order to be eligible for gender affirming surgery. NL is the only province in Canada that still requires this. Ontario doesn’t even require this. Rogers implored the Minister of Health to respond to this petition and tell the people of the province what are his plans on this issue and when can we see new legislation. He would not.
