The Newfoundland and Labrador New Democratic Party (NL NDP) is proud to announce that Shazia Razi has been officially nominated as the party’s candidate in Labrador West for the 2025 provincial election.

Razi is a dedicated community leader and advocate who has called Labrador West home since 2012. With a background in political science and a deep commitment to public service, she has spent over a decade working to improve life for residents across the region. Razi has served on numerous local boards, including First Steps Family Resource Centre, the Housing and Homeless Coalition, and the JRS School Board, all while championing equity and representation.

In 2021, she made history as the first person from a visible minority community to be elected to municipal office in Newfoundland and Labrador, serving on Wabush Town Council. Throughout her term, she has been a strong voice on issues like housing, healthcare, childcare, and public transit. She brings a powerful vision of inclusion, hope, and progress to her candidacy—one rooted in her lived experience and her unwavering belief in putting Labrador West first.

“I have spent so much of my time raising my voice for my community here in Labrador West, and now it’s time to take that voice to the provincial level. I’m running with the NL NDP because they truly listen to Labradorians and are committed to fighting for the things that matter most to us,” said Razi. “This party stands for fairness, equity, and putting people first—values that reflect the heart of Labrador. I want to be part of a team that doesn’t just promise change but works hard to deliver it for our region.”

NL NDP Leader Jim Dinn is thrilled to have Shazia Razi on board as the candidate, someone who he knows will fill the shoes of current NDP MHA Jordan Brown.

“Whether it’s affordable air travel, improving and investing in the Medical Transportation Assistance Program, or advocating for the return of the water bomber to Labrador West, I know Shazia will pick up the torch from Jordan Brown and continue to focus on these critical issues for Labradorians,” said Dinn. “She is deeply passionate about her community and ready to get to work fighting for the better future that the people of Labrador West deserve.”
