NL NDP announces Brenda Walsh as candidate for St. John’s West


The New Democratic Party of Newfoundland and Labrador is pleased to announce that Brenda Walsh is the NDP candidate for the district of St. John’s West.


Brenda Walsh is a retired public servant with over 20 years’ experience with Service Canada helping citizens file for their pensions and employment insurance and addressing their inquiries and concerns. With a background in community outreach and development and organized labour, Brenda held several positions with the Public Service Alliance of Canada, including local Executive President and Chair of the women’s committee. She was also awarded Halton Woman of the Year by the Oakville District Labour Council in 2006.

Candidate Biography: Brenda Walsh


Brenda Walsh is a retired public servant with over 20 years’ experience with Service Canada helping citizens file for their pensions and employment insurance and addressing their inquiries and concerns.


With a background in community outreach and development and organized labour, Brenda held several positions with the Public Service Alliance of Canada, including local Executive President and Chair of the women’s committee. She was also awarded Halton Woman of the Year by the Oakville District Labour Council in 2006.


Experienced in fighting for the interests of workers and workers’ rights, Brenda has advocated for pay equity and resolution to the Phoenix Pay system. She is also an experienced negotiator able to work out fair and inclusive solutions for workers.

Brenda is involved with many local non-for-profits and community groups, including the Lions Club, the MS Society-Avalon Branch, Easter Seals, and the Positive Thinkers Club.


As a wheelchair user, Brenda is an advocate for accessibility and inclusion in provincial infrastructure and calls for greater use of universal design principles throughout the province.


Born in St. John’s, Brenda is proud to have raised her son as a single mother and is a proud nana to two beautiful granddaughters.
