Nicole Boland Nominated as NL NDP Candidate in Waterford Valley

March 23, 2025

The Newfoundland and Labrador New Democratic Party (NL NDP) is proud to announce that Nicole Boland has been officially nominated as the party’s candidate in Waterford Valley for the 2025 provincial election.

Boland is a Registered Social Worker with extensive experience in health, education, and housing. She has worked across public, private, and not-for-profit sectors in Newfoundland and Labrador, focusing on addiction and mental health advocacy, harm reduction, and the Housing First approach.

"Hearing directly from people in the district about the rising cost of living, healthcare struggles, and the need for affordable housing made it clear—change can’t wait,” said Boland. “I know firsthand how much it matters to have a representative who truly listens and fights for their community. Talking to constituents during the by-election, I heard again and again how they feel left behind by this government. Running to be the representative for Waterford Valley isn’t just something I want to do, it’s something I have to do. People deserve better, and I’m ready to fight for real change."

Boland’s passion for helping others began early. Growing up in Shea Heights, she started volunteering at the Hoyles-Escasoni Centre in her teens. While in university, she worked evenings and weekends in home care. These early experiences shaped her career in social work, where she has provided case management, group facilitation, and front-line advocacy.

NL NDP Leader Jim Dinn is thrilled to welcome Boland back to the team after her strong by-election campaign last summer, highlighting her deep commitment to the community and passion for helping others.

“Nicole is exactly the kind of voice Waterford Valley needs,” said Dinn. “She’s deeply invested in her community and understands the everyday struggles people face. Whether it’s healthcare, the cost of living, or housing, she has the experience and determination to fight for real solutions.”

Boland is excited to join Jim Dinn and Jordan Brown in the House of Assembly. She is ready to bring her knowledge and passion to the table, ensuring that government policies put people first.
