Jim Gill is from Newtown. Growing up, he acquired a hard working attitude from his father and his mother always stressed being honest. After high school in Wesleyville, this fisherman’s son obtained a degree in Economics and Political Science from Memorial University and then studied Business Management at the College of the North Atlantic in Grand Falls-Windsor. It was at the College of the North Atlantic where Jim’s interest in current affairs went to a new active level. He became Student Council President and was the Campaigns Coordinator for the provincial component of the Canadian Federation of Students. Jim then moved to Ontario where he worked as an office coordinator and volunteered for Habitat for Humanity and the Brampton Health Coalition. He returned home and completed a Public Policy Analysis course from the London School of Economics in 2021.

Jim is no stranger to politics, having served as the Official Agent for 6 NDP candidates in NL for the 2021 federal election and running in the 2021 provincial election in Fogo Island – Cape Freels. Jim most recently worked with the federal NDP as an Outreach Officer and Fundraiser.

Jim cares deeply about the future of his home district. He spent several summers working in Marketing and Administration, and as a tour guide, at the Barbour Living Heritage Village in Newtown and has seen first-hand the value of tourism in the region. Fogo Island - Cape Freels can send a message in this by-election. Make Jim Gill the new voice for the district.
