Constituents are invited to attend an upcoming town hall hosted by MHA’s Jim Dinn (St. John’s Centre) and Sheilagh O’Leary (St. John’s East-Quidi Vidi) to discuss the skyrocketing cost of home heating and the growing impact it is having on households across the province.
The town hall will provide a space for residents to share how rising heating costs are affecting them and to work together on identifying solutions. The discussion will focus on both short-term measures to help families manage immediate costs, such as removing the HST from all forms of home heating, and long-term strategies to improve affordability and energy security.
“People are feeling the strain of rising heating costs, and they deserve to be heard,” said O’Leary. “This town hall is about listening to residents and working together to find real solutions, both now and for the future.”
Dinn emphasized the importance of community input. “We need to hear directly from people who are struggling to heat their homes. Their experiences will help shape the advocacy and actions needed to address this crisis in the short and long term.”
Residents, community groups, and stakeholders are encouraged to attend and participate in the conversation. The MHAs are committed to bringing the concerns raised at the town hall forward in their ongoing work to ensure a more affordable, sustainable future for Newfoundlanders and Labradorians.
