The Newfoundland and Labrador New Democratic Party is calling out Liberal Leader John Hogan following his announcement yesterday on Family Care Team clinics – when just a few short weeks ago, the Registered Nurses Union of NL (RNU-NL) spoke out against private nurses taking the jobs of public nurses when it comes to intake of family care teams.
Yvette Coffey spoke to CBC on September 13, explaining how their union had not been consulted on this, and found out about the decision after it was made. Not only is this disrespectful to our public nurses, but it continues to show the Liberals long history of pushing privatization into our public healthcare system.
Along with the shameful behaviour of prioritizing private nurses over public workers, the Liberals haven’t even fully staffed all 21 currently announced family care teams. As stated by Krista Lynn Howell during an announcement at the old Corner Brook hospital, they are still working on staffing up care teams to be able to be fully operational. They’re promising more while they still haven’t even staffed their current promise.
No costing provided. No plan for recruitment and retention. Just more empty promises.
