NDP Question Period, December 10: O’Leary Asks for Relief on Home Heating Bills

Here is the question that MHA for St. John’s East-Quidi Vidi, Sheilagh O’Leary would have asked in Question Period today:

“Speaker, we heard a lot from this government during the campaign about how they want to make life more affordable for ‘all of us’, but we have yet to hear a plan that would actually put more money in the pockets of people in this province.”

“Winter isn’t coming – it’s here. The weather has turned cold, and the price to heat your home, whether it’s with electricity, oil, propane, or wood, has left people forced to stay freezing in their own homes.”

“Premier Wakeham and the PCs on multiple occasions have been vocally against the NDP policy that would see the provincial HST removed from all forms of home heating – a policy that was enacted by a Conservative government in 2011. But they have yet to explain what their plan is to lower the cost of home heating to keep people warm in the cold winter months.”

“So, I ask the Premier: What’s the plan?”
