Following leaked details that NL Hydro and Quebec Hydro have a reached an agreement, NL NDP Leader Jim Dinn (MHA, St. John’s Centre) wrote to Premier Wakeham requesting that a special debate must take place in the House of Assembly on the new Churchill Falls agreement. Dinn is calling for transparency to ensure public trust and confidence.
“Given that your government has spent the better part of a year apologizing for being relatively new to being in power, the public needs to be confident that this deal is in the best interest of the province as you promised,” Dinn wrote.
Opening the House of Assembly for debate would allow MHAs to question and scrutinise the deal and help inform the people of the province on the agreement.
