NL NDP Releases Platform To Get A Better Deal For Labrador

Built through conversations with Labradorians looking for a better deal, NL NDP Leader Jim Dinn, joined by Shazia Razi, the party’s candidate for Labrador West, unveiled the NDP’s Labrador platform today – a bold and practical plan to address the region’s long-standing needs and deliver meaningful change.

Dinn launched the region-specific platform recognizing the unique challenges and opportunities facing Labradorians.

“For decades, Liberal and Conservative governments have focused only on Labrador’s resources while ignoring the people who live here and make it all possible,” said Dinn. “Labrador has given so much to this province – it’s time the province gave back.”

Among the platform’s key commitments:

  • Construction of a new 40-unit seniors’ complex in Labrador West to improve long-term care and support aging with dignity;
  • 200 new affordable housing units to tackle the housing crisis and reduce waitlists;
  • Hiring 140 additional health care workers, including nurses, home care staff, and specialists, to reduce wait times and improve access to care;
  • Significant improvements to the Medical Transportation Assistance Program (MTAP), including making it more accessible and responsive to Labrador residents by removing requirements for additional physician notes for patients requiring an escort;
  • Repair the province’s fifth water bomber to strengthen wildfire response and better protect homes, communities.

“This platform is rooted in the voices of Labradorians,” said Dinn. “From concerns about affordable housing to the need for more seniors’ care and stronger healthcare services, people have been clear about what they need. I’m proud to be part of a team that’s not only listening but ready to act.”

“Serving on town council taught me that real change starts with listening – and with fighting every day for the people who make our communities work,” said Razi. “For me, this isn’t just politics, it’s about standing up for the workers, parents, and seniors who’ve built this region and who deserve to thrive in it. That’s my priority, and that’s what this platform delivers.”

The NL NDP says this platform shows that a better deal for Labrador isn’t just possible – it’s long overdue.
