Newfoundland and Labrador NDP Leader Jim Dinn (St. John’s Centre), joined by Sheilagh O’Leary (St. John’s East–Quidi Vidi), will enter the House of Assembly today as it reconvenes after being closed for 9 months.
New Democrats remain firmly focused on delivering solutions to address the rising cost of living, the ongoing crisis in healthcare, and the need for greater transparency and accountability within government.
“Our commitment to change, and the very real challenges facing Newfoundlanders and Labradorians, shaped not only our election campaign, but our fully costed platform that turned strong ideas into practical solutions for the people of this province,” said Dinn. “As we return to the House, we will continue to push for policies that make life more affordable, ensure people can access timely healthcare, and restore trust by advancing a clear plan for greater transparency and accountability in government.”
Dinn says that advocating for policies such as removing the provincial HST from all forms of home heating and children’s essentials, implementing a guaranteed basic income, improving healthcare working conditions to support recruitment and retention, and adopting the NL NDP’s housing plan to increase the supply of affordable homes will demonstrate that New Democrats have a clear and practical path forward for Newfoundlanders and Labradorians.
“MHA O’Leary and I are ready to return to the House of Assembly to fight for working and low-income families who are struggling every day with the crises affecting our province,” said Dinn. “It’s time to be bold and to push government to make decisions that put people first – not political interests – as we have seen too often in the past.”
“This sitting of the House will show how prepared Wakeham’s Conservatives are to work across the aisle to deliver meaningful results. We are ready – as we have always been – to come to the table and work toward real, practical solutions for the people of this province. It’s time for change, and we will keep fighting until it happens.”
