Newfoundland and Labrador NDP Leader Jim Dinn (St. John’s Centre) is in Labrador West this week, attending MINEx and having meaningful conversations around industry and community.
During the election, the NL NDP unveiled its Critical Mineral Strategy – a plan that includes establishing a dedicated critical minerals division within the Department of Industry, Energy and Technology to guide companies through the regulatory process, investing $5 million annually to attract new investment, and increasing funding for geological surveys to help companies begin mining sooner. Dinn says he will continue to promote this strategy and explore additional ways to support the province’s mining sector.
“We know Labrador has a tremendous opportunity to be a national leader in critical mineral resources. We should be leading the pack, setting the stage for our future,” said Dinn. “We have the potential to create thousands of good-paying jobs that help grow and sustain our local economies. We must help steer investment, guide development, and ensure the people of this province are the primary beneficiaries of our resources. But to do that we need stable supply of hydro power for growth. These are conversations I am excited to continue this week at MINEx.”
Dinn emphasizes that his focus on Labrador continues.
“We will continue to fight for Labrador West, and Labrador as a whole – whether it’s investing in critical minerals, improving access to travel, or expanding healthcare services,” Dinn said. “Labradorians aren’t just their resources – they are vibrant communities of workers, families, seniors, and students, and they deserve strong representation. I will continue to make sure their voices are heard by government.”
