Putting Labradorians First this House of Assembly Sitting: Brown

For Immediate Release

October 31, 2024

The House of Assembly opens on November 4, and MHA Jordan Brown (Labrador West) will bring Labrador issues to the forefront.

Brown says he will raise issues around housing, affordability, airfare costs/MTAP, and mental health supports to highlight a few.

“There are many things that cause additional stress on the people of Labrador West. The housing crisis continues to strain seniors who are struggling to find affordable places to live. It’s discouraging workers, whether it be in industry, health care, or education, who want to come to Labrador and settle down. It’s greatly impacting us,” said Brown.

“Our Family Care Team is still not open, leaving people questioning what do to when it comes to accessing care. The cost of airfare, and the red tape and burden of paperwork for MTAP causes Labradorians to have less access to the medical care they need.”

After Labradorians experienced the largest evacuation this summer due to forest fires, MHA Brown will also be discussing the emergency preparedness of the province, along with continuing to advocate for the fifth water bomber to be returned Wabush.

“I will be asking the Premier why he refuses to put the fifth water bomber back in Wabush and instead turned to Quebec to handle Labrador West. It shows a complete disregard for the safety of Labradorians,” said Brown. “Even as recently as 2019, Liberal ministers were explaining why the water bomber needs to be in Wabush, so I expect the Premier to have a good answer as to why he refuses to return that service.

“In all, Labradorians feel left out by this Liberal government. We are treated like a mining camp, used for our natural resources while government refuses to provide us with adequate supports and resources for our people. Labradorians are tired, but I am not giving up hope. I will continue to advocate for Labrador West in the House of Assembly and make sure our peoples voices are heard.”
