“The people of the province should be very concerned about the slush fund being created by the Liberal Government. It lacks transparency even though the selling of assets will cut public service jobs. This government needs to be clear about their intentions.
“The government’s attempt to create a sovereign fund is decades too late. It’s clear from last night’s debate on the Future Fund, that there is no real interest in transparency, no idea of the value of public assets to be sold off, no intention of disclosing liabilities related to decommissioning and abandonment activities.
“The Bill presented by government states that net proceeds from the sale of crown assets with gross proceeds in excess of $5 million will be deposited into the future fund account. Yet, after spending millions of dollars on a secret report prepared by Rothschild Co., the Premier would not tell us which Crown assets are up for sale. The government welcomed wealthy buyers to have a first look at what’s going up for auction, but refuses to tell the truth to the people of this province who own these assets.
“It’s not fair to public sector workers, it’s not fair to their families, and it’s not fair to the communities whose economies rely on the jobs created by these assets. This government needs to put its focus on the people of this province.”
