NL NDP Leader and MHA for St. John’s Centre, Jim Dinn, will join post-secondary students today calling for better supports for students in this province.
The NL NDP is calling on government to get serious and address the growing concerns of post-secondary students and faculty. This includes reinstating the tuition freeze, fair pay for work-terms, working with MUN on affordable student housing, and addressing the crumbling infrastructure.
“Myself and my colleague MHA Jordan Brown continue to focus on making things better for post-secondary students, including standing in the House of Assembly presenting petitions fair pay for work-terms, and bringing back the tuition freeze,” said Dinn. “The cuts to funding made by this Liberal government show that they are uninterested in addressing the concerns of the students.
“The cost of living continues to add undue stress and strain on people across the province, especially students who are sometimes forced to work multiple minimum wage jobs just to be able to afford their education and sustain themselves,” said Dinn. “Students shouldn’t have to worry about where they are going to live, or how they are going to eat because the food bank they have to rely on is out of food. They should be supported so that they can focus on excelling in their program.
“Young people will not stay here and build their future here if we don’t make things fairer and more affordable.”
The march begins this morning at 11:00am at the clock tower on Memorial’s St. John’s Campus.
