NL NDP Leader Jim Dinn Attending National Conference on Ending Homelessness

For Immediate Release

October 30, 2024

NL NDP Leader Jim Dinn (St. John’s Centre) is in Ottawa this week attending the National Conference on Ending Homelessness. The conference brings together folks from across the country involved in the Canadian movement to end homelessness, all with the key goal of sharing solutions and ideas to addressing the issue.

Dinn says this event brings people from different communities, with all varying levels of experience, to the table to find real solutions. This year’s conference focuses on policies to end homelessness, and how people can best advocate and campaign for these changes.

“It is eye-opening to listen to people from across Canada speak about the realities of homelessness in their communities. From these in depth conversations, we can find new solutions, and expand on the solutions we have already been pushing for,” said Dinn. “It is inspiring to be having these conversations with advocates, doctors, activists, workers, and people who have the passion to tackle the homelessness crisis head on.”

Some of the content being covered at the conference includes homelessness prevention (youth, seniors, women, Indigenous), the right to housing and a housing first approach, and health care and homelessness. Dinn says these are all important conversations that he ready to bring back to Newfoundland and Labrador.

“With the House of Assembly opening next week, I plan to bring what I learn to the floor and push for meaningful action on policy that will target homelessness in our province,” he said.

The conference began yesterday and will run until October 31st.
