Jordan Brown, MHA for Labrador West, wrote the Premier today to express his concerns regarding the lack of effort being made by government to make intra-provincial travel affordable and accessible.
With costs continuing to rise for residents of Labrador looking to fly to the province for both personal and business reasons, Brown calls on government to start focusing on how to make intra-provincial travel easier for all Newfoundlanders and Labradorians.
“Given the lack of operators, scheduling and the frequency of flights are also big concerns for people in Labrador. A regular, reliable air service is not only a convenience for local residents, but would also help us develop business opportunities and recruitment for hard to fill jobs in the region,” Brown writes.

Premier Furey,
I am writing you once again today to express my concerns regarding the lack of effort being made by this government on keeping intra-provincial travel affordable and accessible.
As I’m sure you are well aware, the cost of air travel to and from Labrador has risen considerably in the last few years. It has now become unaffordable to the average resident of Labrador to travel to the island. We have only one intra-provincial airline operator, and this has created many challenges when it comes to travel within the province.
Given the lack of operators, scheduling and the frequency of flights are also big concerns for people in Labrador. A regular, reliable air service is not only a convenience for local residents, but would also help us develop business opportunities and recruitment for hard to fill jobs in the region.
I understand that airline operations are a federal jurisdiction, but we need you and your government to be strong provincial advocates in Ottawa, to obtain help for rural passengers with affordability and access.
I therefore ask you and your government to make travel inside the province a priority, both within the bounds of provincial jurisdiction and also in advocacy to the Federal Government.
Regards,
Jordan Brown
MHA for Labrador West
