NDP MHA Jordan Brown (Labrador West) calling for clarification on a section of Budget 2025-2026 that highlights that the new Atlantic Wildfire Centre will include satellite infrastructure in Wabush in response to the region’s vulnerability to wildfires.
After years of advocating for the return of the fifth waterbomber and the base to Wabush, Brown was intrigued to see a piece in the budget referencing “satellite infrastructure” for Wabush. However, he had to question government today on the specifics of this infrastructure.
“There are still a lot of questions about what this infrastructure actually is. Will this include bringing back the waterbomber base to Wabush, or is it simply a rebranding of the existing Forestry office?” Brown asked the Minister.
Brown says anything that would help Labradorians safe with the threats of wildfires is welcome but means little to the communities without the commitment to return the fifth waterbomber once repairs are complete.
“The safety of our communities and our natural resources is at stake,” said Brown. “I ask the Minister, will this government commit to reinstating the waterbomber in Wabush?”
