Care for seniors, rising cost of living top of mind in Mount Pearl North
The New Democratic Party candidate for Mount Pearl North, Nicole Kieley, says seniors’ care, from housing to home care, and concerns about rising costs and affordability of services, are front and centre in the district.
Kieley says she’s had the privilege to meet and speak with many seniors on the campaign trail. She says while Mount Pearl has a thriving aging population, she’s encountered many urgent concerns.
“The cost of living is going up. Many seniors live on fixed incomes. With increasing taxes and rising utility bills, as well as health and dental plans that fall short of seniors’ needs, many are concerned,” said Kieley.
Kieley says long wait lists for seniors’ communities, as well as a lack of affordable options for home care support, are among other issues she’s hearing from residents.
“We must care for our seniors and be proactive in our planning. We need to ensure our housing development plans, wellness programs, and health care services work for older adults, while being both accessible and affordable to all seniors,” said Kieley.
“I am committed to advocating for affordable seniors’ housing and demanding an end to service cuts that burden the most vulnerable in our province.”
